Beji passed away on Wednesday afternoon, - August 13, 2014. Her life was interrupted with the onset of Alzheimer’s disease in 2009. Bob, Supreet and Ruby took care of Beji every single day as she suffered through this prolonged illness. She spent the last 2 years, 2 months and 2 days of her life at The Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home. In General people’s view of nursing homes is usually perceived as negative – (that they smell, the food is bland or there is this constant distractions.) However, we were so fortunate for the care that Beji had received there. The staff is commended for the support they provided to Beji and to the rest of our family. They treated her so gently with dignity and respect. They truly cared about Beji’s well being till the very end. Her early life could have been written in a novel. She was forced from her home in Pakistan. She lost several members of her family, including her older sister. Her family lived in a refuge state. Later on with the grace of god, they got connected with missing family members in India. The hardships we experience today cannot be compared to what Beji had endured in her lifetime. Beji and Pitaji raised 8 beautiful children together in New Delhi, India. They continued their journey to Canada in 1975 with the help of Nimi Auntie and Praji. They wanted a better life for the rest of the children. Here she became a Canadian Citizen in 1977. She adjusted rapidly to the Canadian culture. Beji worked very hard to support her family at home. She took English classes to become familiar with the social norms. However she decided to dedicate her life to help raise her grandchildren. Her life is characterized by her devotion to her family. She was particularly dedicated to helping raise all her grandchildren from Monika born in 1975 to the youngest grandchildren Jessica and Justina Tuli. She had a very gentle way about her. Beji always took the time to make sure everyone who visited the Tuli household was taken care of. She would make sure everyone is well fed and cared for. Regardless of her health and wellbeing she always made her way to the kitchen. One of Beji’s greatest talents was producing beautiful dresses for all her granddaughters. As well, as for her great granddaughters, Reyha and Maya. She had a natural flair of creating beautiful outfits from any piece of cloth. Beji’s sewing machine was her prized possession. She found more passion in creating clothing for her children over spending money on herself. She was an incredibly selfless woman. Beji taught us that whatever comes your way in life, you want to face it with grace, dignity and courage. Beji’s legacy of love for her family will go on forever in our hearts. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by everyone fortunate enough to have experienced her grace. Thank you all for being here today to honor and celebrate Beji’s life.
